I'm Sallah. I live in Dubai and work on agentic AI for large enterprises as a Distinguished Software Engineer at QuantumBlack, AI by McKinsey. Here's the longer story.
I grew up in a small town in Morocco, where the circuits behind my uncle's TV repair bench were the first thing that felt like magic to me. Video games came next. They got me into programming, and programming led me to study computer science at INSA Lyon, an engineering school in France.
I started my career in Silicon Valley, France and the UK, building software and learning the craft from people much better than me. Then I went back to Morocco, because I wanted to help software engineering grow on the continent. While working in Casablanca I joined McKinsey, first with Build by McKinsey as a Senior Expert and Associate Partner, and today with QuantumBlack, AI by McKinsey.
Along the way, my focus followed whatever problem was in front of me:
I help businesses transform through technology: software engineering and architecture, platform design, and making delivery teams more productive. In practice, that means building platforms, running R&D, and turning ideas into systems that hold up in production.
Lately that work is about AI agents: how to govern them with smart contracts, how to evaluate them, and how to plug them into the workflows people already use. I also build open-source tools around it, like n8n nodes and a Playwright MCP server for the ARK agentic runtime.
I love technology, but what keeps me going is what it does for people. Most tech problems are human problems underneath, and the best moment of any project is seeing someone realize what the technology can do for them.
I also believe in craft: clean code, tests you can trust, and teams that learn in public. Fast is fine, but only with a clear approach behind it.
I founded the Moroccan Software Crafters community and the first Engineering Craft International Unconference in Africa, and I go back every year to meet the local engineering community. I've also recorded the 9Talks video series on craftsmanship (in French), and I write in both English and French, including my book Software Craftsmanship: L'art du code et de l'agilité technique en entreprise.
